Why Amigo Energy?

Amigo Energy has been a familiar face in the Houston energy scene since its doors opened back in 2004. Originally a local family business, Amigo Energy is a pioneer in providing top-tier bilingual customer service to folks across the Lone Star State. While they joined the Just Energy family in 2011, they have kept that personal, community-first feel that many neighbors have come to rely on for over two decades. Since the early days of deregulation, Amigo Energy has focused on building a reputation for reliability. If you are after a provider that combines a deep understanding of the local grid with a focus on neighborly service, Amigo Energy is a solid contender for your home!

Plan Types & Features

Amigo Energy organizes its “Hottest Plans” into distinct categories designed to fit the way you actually live. Whether you’re a night owl or a work-from-home professional, here is how their lineup breaks down:

Please note that the plans listed below are just a selection of their best available offerings, as they provide many more plans and contract lengths within each of these categories:

  • Time-of-Use Plans: These plans are designed for people who can shift their heavy energy usage to specific windows to save a pretty penny. Just be aware of the higher rates during paid windows. One important note: Amigo Energy typically requires a smart meter for these plans to track your usage in real-time.

    • Nights Free Plan: This plan offers cost-free electricity every single night from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

    • Weekends Free Plan: You get free electricity starting at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays all the way through 11:59 p.m. on Sundays.

    • Simply Days Free: Specifically built for the work-from-home crowd, this plan offers $0 energy charges from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

Other fees or charges may still apply.

  • Usage Credit & High-Usage Plans: If you have a larger home or consistent energy needs, these plans reward you with significant bill credits once you hit certain milestones:

    • Mega Saver: This is a popular choice for large homes, offering a substantial statement credit every month your usage hits or passes the 2,000 kWh threshold. It also typically features no base charges, which helps keep your costs transparent.

    • Bright 75 Plus: This plan provides a “sweet spot” for medium-sized households by providing a bill credit once your electricity usage reaches the 1,000 kWh milestone in a billing cycle.

  • Loyalty & Reward Plans: Amigo Energy likes to say “thank you” to customers who stick around with these unique incentive plans:

    • 12th Month Free: On this plan, Amigo Energy waives your energy charges for the very last month of your annual contract as a loyalty bonus.

    • “Recibe Más” Cashback: This unique plan gives you a 5% cashback reward on your energy charges, paid out as a bill credit every six months to help you keep more of your hard-earned cash.

  • Simplified Fixed-Rate Plans: For neighbors who just want a straightforward, no-hassle rate, these plans keep things simple:

    • Simple Choice: This is a top-value fixed-rate plan that offers competitive pricing and reliable service without any complicated requirements.

    • Apartment Essentials: Tailored specifically for apartment dwellers and small spaces, this plan offers budget-friendly rates and the flexibility to cancel anytime without pesky fees.

    • PowerBlock Plan: This unique option offers a monthly flat rate for a set block of power. It is one of the most predictable options available, allowing you to pay a single price for your baseline energy usage each month.

    • Summer Saver: This seasonal plan is designed to help you tackle the high cost of Texas summers. It offers a lower energy rate during the hottest months of the year, helping to offset the cost of running your air conditioning when demand is highest.

If you prefer a provider with a long history in the Houston area and a reputation for excellent bilingual support, Amigo Energy might be the right call for your home. It is a fantastic choice for people who enjoy a perk-heavy experience, whether that means earning cashback or getting a free month of power at the end of the year. Amigo Energy also fits well for households with specific schedules, like night owls or work-from-home professionals, thanks to their diverse time-of-use options. If you want a provider that feels more like a community partner than a massive utility corporation, the personal touch at Amigo Energy makes it easy to stay in control.

Amigo Energy Provider Benefits

Amigo Energy is big on making energy feel less like a chore. Their Stat Rewards program is a favorite for tech lovers: by enrolling an eligible smart thermostat, you can snag a bill credit and an ongoing discount on your energy rate for allowing small, automatic adjustments during peak demand.

Beyond the gadgets, Amigo Energy offers the “GoodBundle” membership, which provides extra layers of protection for your wallet. Depending on the tier you choose, you can get access to lower energy rates, carbon offsets, and even protection against late fees. They also know that getting your power up and running on your move-in day is important! If you call or enroll online before 12 PM CT, they will have your electricity up and running the same day if you meet their specific requirements.

Things to Check Before Switching

Before you make the switch to Amigo Energy, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Contract Term and Early Termination Fee (ETF): Leaving a fixed-rate contract early for reasons other than moving usually involves an ETF from Amigo Energy. Make sure the term length aligns with your living situation.
  • TDU Delivery Charges: These are the regulated fees from utilities like Oncor or CenterPoint that cover the wires and poles that deliver electricity. They are passed through to your bill and are not part of the Amigo Energy energy rate.
  • Bill Credit Windows: If you choose a usage credit-based plan, pay close attention to your typical usage. If you fall just short of the usage threshold, you won’t see that credit, which can make your average rate jump significantly.
  • No-Penalty Switching Window: Per PUCT rules, you are allowed to switch to a new provider within the final 14 days of your current contract without facing an early termination penalty.
